Keep x Animal Collective

Good Evening folks,

I just stumbled upon a super cool collaboration that Keep has undertaken. Keep is awesome. They have cruelty-free products. They are ethically aware. Best thing about it: they have some pretty sweet sneakers that are for both men and women. They have recently teamed up with the band Animal Collective (check out their MySpace) to create some really interesting designs. Each member of the band designed a pair of Keep sneakers and these proceeds are all going to the Socorro Island Conservation Fund. The fund was set up to provide charitable support for marine and terrestrial conservation work on the Socorro Islands. For more on this charity, the website is here.

The shoes are available for pre-order until October 31st, but they won’t actually ship until the beginning of next year.

The future of hypedink is definitely up in the air.

With most of us being occupied by other things at the moments, we have unfortunately neglected our fellow readers.

However, a return is definitely in the works.

JUST a pair of shoes? JUST?

in life, there are some things that are worth waiting for. sushi perhaps, taro milk tea with coconut jelly maybe, a first kiss with a loved one, or even the playoffs. I don’t know much about waiting. i am a pretty impatient person. but three days ago, I decided to wait for something BIG. ICONIC as some would put it. something that comes once in a blue moon.

12/23/2009 – the release of the Jordan XI Space Jams - Behold:

so as i stood in the freezing cold at 8 in the morning outside Livestock, I thought to myself, “i am a part of something bigger than myself”. these kicks have transcended time, and taken over the entire shoe culture. they are the IMAGE of what Jordan wore! don’t tell me that you don’t start getting giddy when you see someone rocking these XI’s!

i was sixth in line, behind some pretty dedicated fanatics, and there was even a guy who had been lining up since 4 in the morning. it was a peaceful scene. little did i know that in many cities around the continent, at that exact time mayhem had broken loose.

south of the border, footlockers had been broken in to, cops had arrived to intervene, and crowds of people had infiltrated the malls. in downtown vancouver, we had all but 12 people in our line waiting gracefully, happily hoping to get our hands on a pair of space jams. sure, i had to pass the time with some small talk with my fellow patient compadres. sure, i had to listen to some espn podcasts to make sure i was sane after the first hour. i even had to call P. up a million times because i know he would be interested (he eventually showed up later to cop a pair) but it was WELL WORTH the wait.

livestock would eventually open up at 11am, allowing 5 people in the store at a time to pick up their individual treasures. as i picked mine up and looked at them, i knew i was a part of history, and you know what, these were definitely not JUST a pair of shoes.

With summer and fall behind us, we lucky Vancouverites get to look forward to our seasonal dosage of rain, snow, slush and everything inbetween. Yes kids, it’s time to put away those summer sneakers and whip out the heavy artillery against mother nature. But not so fast, you skepticals might be thinking: ” Ain’t no way I’m rockin em ugly ass gumboots na mean!” But oh, ye of little faith, hypedink has got you covered. Here’s a list of some of the best footwear for this winter season:

This refreshingly original marriage between the two produced some of the most hyped footwear this season. With the trend reverting back towards American workwear/footwear, consumers have been looking for timeless staples that will remain in their closet for years to come ( Sorry flourescent colored shoes ) While, they borrowed from the classic silhouettes we have featured above (desert boot) there are many subtleties and details that make them unique in their own respect. With Canadian retailer Ransom at the helm, you know these will stand up to the harsh Canadian winter. And they’re Adidas, show some love mmkay?

So that about wraps out our first installment for this winter season. I’m personally waiting for a pair of clarks to arrive, while Justin beat me to the punch and has been rocking these to keep his feet warm. Beautiful eh?

As I sit here lookin’ at an empty plate previously topped with icing-ed chocolate goodness I begin to wonder about the Fall. The season that watchfully awaits us as we shed off those poundages only to fall right back into the trap of a routine college/work/no-time kind of diet. I also couldn’t help but notice that for the past 10 minutes, the 3 websites that I’ve visited all had ad’s about losing weight or getting one’s body in shape. Think on it a little guys and gals.

Why then does winter fashion seem more form-fitting/flattering?

It doesn’t, I just needed a segue so I can talk about these designers,

From Montreal.

Brought to my attention by a friend recently is a brand called Soia & Kyo. They are among one of the top fashion connoisseurs who have focused their attention on mostly outerwear for gals with top of the notch garment production that promises durability IF you “take care of your coats.” Also worth mentioning is how they are known for their aim to provide fabulous fit, detailing, and out of the ordinary styling: oversized buttons, asymmetrical structured collars, wide belts, and contrasting trimmings. Such distinctive style seeps through the confines of comfort to promote wearablility and timelessness for its style. Shout outs to the sistas who are hypedanks. Enjoy =)
